A fandom is not defined by the actions of a few, but by the love we all share. I fell in love with Sontails because of the wholesome bond these two have always shared.

Long ago, I imagined Tails growing into adulthood—reaching his twenties and slowly realizing just how deeply he cares for Sonic. And in time, Sonic comes to feel the same. That’s always been my personal interpretation of Sontails, and it’s stayed with me.

You're not alone as a fan. There are countless ways to interpret this ship. Some are less kind, yes—but many others are rooted in the deepest kind of love and care. One of the best examples I can point to is Jeffydust, whose work continues to shine with that warmth.

What defines a ship isn't the noise around it—it’s the love you feel for the characters and the future you imagine for them. That love can even be a guiding light in your own life, a reflection of your feelings and hopes.

Just remember: if you ever decide to share your art again, there are people who will cherish it deeply.

I completely understand your concerns, and I want to acknowledge that this is a complicated situation. While I recognize that vent art serves as a coping mechanism, that doesn’t mean we have to be comfortable with it or accept it within our own spaces.

For many of us, SonTails is something deeply meaningful, and seeing it depicted in this way—especially with such heavy themes and without content warnings—can be extremely unsettling. It’s natural to feel protective over something we treasure, and it’s also valid to feel disturbed when it’s used in a way that conflicts with that.

At the same time, vent art doesn’t always follow logic. People use their comfort characters in deeply personal ways, even if those ways are difficult for others to understand. That doesn’t mean we have to engage with it, and it certainly doesn’t mean we can’t express our discomfort.

Ultimately, I think the best thing we can do is focus on fostering a space where SonTails is celebrated in a way that aligns with how we see it. Our own headcanons and interpretations matter just as much, and we don’t have to let something like this define our community.

And for the record, I don’t think you come across as mean at all. This is simply a natural response when it comes to characters we love and care about.

This is a complicated situation, and I want to be honest about my own feelings while also recognizing the deeper reason behind this kind of art.

I’ll admit that I’m personally uncomfortable with it because it goes against my headcanon. I’ve always seen SonTails as a relationship that evolves naturally over time—from close friends to something more as they grow older. Given how strong their bond already is, I see that transition as something that could happen later in life.

At the same time, I also recognize that there are over seven billion people on this planet, and everyone copes in their own way. In this case, through personal conversations, I’ve come to understand that this particular art is venting art—a way to process and express past trauma from childhood.

For most of us, it won’t make logical sense, and we’re not psychiatrists. But art isn’t always meant to follow logic. It can take a million different forms, serving as a vessel for emotions that are difficult to put into words. Sometimes, the very thing that feels objectionable is used as a way to confront and release past pain.

That doesn’t change the fact that it makes many people uncomfortable—I won’t deny that. And unfortunately, it’s also something that invites a lot of negativity from both sides. Antis will weaponize it to attack, while many SonTails fans won’t want to be associated with it because it doesn’t reflect how they see the ship.

It’s a difficult situation, to say the least. But at the end of the day, I’m not here to judge how someone copes with their past—I can only acknowledge my own feelings while respecting theirs.

The art will be included in the Lost Art Archive—that's the only fitting place for it. However, it’s clear this piece isn’t from 2002. The resolution, pixel count, and file size (2048x1556) indicate it was created sometime in 2020 or later.

The wiki project is a fan-driven effort, and while I aim to keep it as accurate as possible, it’s still a fan-made project. Mistakes can happen, and occasionally, incorrect or misdated pieces may slip in. Nothing in this world is ever truly perfect, so some errors are to be expected.

@Mobian #F77E As much as I hate to say it, the reason this file couldn’t be from 2002 is because of the resolution. Files from that time wouldn’t have been in HD.

Oh my some original 2002 sontails art what an incredible find

This artist's work dates back to the early 2000s, and while I can’t confirm an exact date, it’s likely older than 2012. The art was featured in YouTube videos around 2012, but the original DeviantArt account associated with the artist has long since been deleted, leaving little information about it.
